For those listeners last week who, like me were listening intently to Leon reeling off his list of the best quality Wii titles, here is the breakdown in no particular order. Some of them are standalone discs, some are Wii Ware.
- Mario Kart Wii
- Super Mario Galaxy
- New Mario Bros Wii
- Muramasa: The Demon Blade
- Boom Blox and the follow-up Boom Blox Party
- Legend of Zelda: Twilght Princess
- Metroid Prime Trilogy
- Mad World
- Dead Space Extraction
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- Tatsunoku VS. Capcom
- Super Paper Mario
- Zack and Wiki
- Little Kings Story
- Lost Winds and it’s sequel; Winter of the Melodias
- Nyx Quest
- De Blob
- A Boy and His Blob
- World of Goo
- Order Up
- Bonsai Barber
- Bit Trip Beat and Bit Trip Core
- Lit
- Max and the Magic Marker
- Swords and Soldiers
- You, Me and the Cubes
- Tomena Sanner
- Miboshi the Three Shape Arcade
- Tales of Monkey Island

Damn, some good good titles on there. Glad to see I must have getting on for half of them, now I just need to play them! Ahem. At least I’ve supported good developers by buying all of them brand spanking.
Missing Eledees/Elebits other than that a very comprehensive list
Eledees is a good shout.
A few(!) others I have since thought of:
Art Style: Orbient (WW)
Art Style: Cubello (WW)
Swords & Soldiers (WW)
BIT.TRIP VOID (WW)
Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (best version by far)
Contra Rebirth (WW)
Gradius Rebirth (WW)
Punch-Out!!
Sin & Punishment 2 (out soon)
Tetris Party (WW)
New Play Control! Pikmin 1 & 2
Anno: Creat a New World/Dawn of Discovery
Deadly Creatures
GHOST Squad
House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return
Klonoa
Let’s Tap
Mr. Driller W (WW)
Okami
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (best version by far)
And if you never had a Gamecube, tere are about 30 more ‘essentials’…
Oh, erm, and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, No More Heroes 1 & 2…
Mario galaxy, Twilight princess, Metroid prime trilogy and super smash bros brawl really stand out as must haves for the system. Any of those four games can go toe to toe or even surpass games on HD systems. Twilight princess is freaking amazing and Super smash bros brawl is my personal favourite fighting game at present……I still think new super mario bros Wii should be on Wii ware for £10 – £15 instead of a full retail release, but to each his own I guess.
My copy of NSMBW was free, as the doofus in GAME failed to ring it through the till (I was buying several things and didn’t relaise until I was halfway home) – result!
I really want to like Wii games, which is why I took an interest in this particular post and to the related podcast. Unfortunately every time I dust it off for a new release that other people have said was some shade of spectacular, I’m left with an experience that doesn’t add up to past experiences I’ve had on other systems with other games (not just the current generation).
I bought Wii 1st day out and bought a number of games over the course of a few months (Twilight Princess, COD3, Tiger Woods 07, Trauma Center, Elebits, Rayman Raving Rabids, Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz, and Wii Play (mostly for the extra controller)). The only game in this list I feel is worth mentioning (or even worth playing for more than 5 minutes) is Twilight Princess, and even that, compared to other games that came out around the same time is just… lacking. I honestly got bored with it halfway through and never finished it.
I hate to speak on games I’ve never played, so as for the rest of the list above, I can’t say much, except
– Elebits does not deserve to be on the list — it’s a glorified easter egg hunt.
– Punch Out!! didn’t offer much over the original, I didn’t finish this one either.
– Mario Kart Wii wasn’t as enjoyable to me as the DS version was.
– NSMB Wii was great, just as the DS version was.
Anyway, I like lists, so I sorted out all the suggestions here and looked up the metacritic score for each one… I’ll post it in a follow up comment.
I have a lot of interest in playing a bunch of these titles, but I am always a bit reserved. The really hard part for me, and I’m sure this was mentioned in the podcast, is — I have limited time for gaming as it is… why put time into a console that has historically not provided me total enjoyment, when I have been receiving total enjoyment from my PC, NDS, PS3 for years now.
